If you are visiting Jiaobanshan this October and want to experience more than a quick sightseeing stop, set aside two hours to explore the town at a slower pace.
On October 3, 17, and 11, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, three free guided walks will invite visitors to experience Jiaobanshan through the theme of “getting to know the place.”
The journey begins at the Pyasan Atayal Culture Center with “Indigenous Vitality,” part of the Indigenous exhibition program of the 2026 Taiwan Design Expo in Taoyuan.
From there, local guides will lead visitors into the streets of Jiaobanshan before continuing to the Forestry Story House and the exhibition “A Confession to the Land — Gathering Is Where Creation Begins.”
This is not a route designed to rush from one attraction to another.
It is closer to having someone accompany you while slowly reading the stories of Jiaobanshan.
The guided walk begins at the Pyasan Atayal Culture Center with “Indigenous Vitality.”
The guided walk begins at the Pyasan Atayal Culture Center.
Through “Indigenous Vitality,” visitors are introduced to Fuxing through the perspectives of design, culture, and contemporary Indigenous life.
After visiting the exhibition, the journey does not end inside the museum.
The next part of the walk takes you into Jiaobanshan itself.
Stop 2|Leave the Exhibition and Walk into the Town
As the route moves from the cultural center into the Jiaobanshan district, the walk is joined by the local revitalization team Together We Fly Future Design Studio.
Rather than simply introducing where to shop or what to buy, the local walk looks at the town through its spaces, history, people, and the changes that have been taking place in recent years.
Some places are easy to pass without noticing.
But once someone tells you what used to be here, who shaped the area, or why the town looks the way it does today, the same street begins to feel different.
Forest Exploration|Plants, paths, textures, and scents can all become starting points for understanding a place and creating from it.
Walking through the Bamboo Grove|Following people who know the land offers another way to understand knowledge shaped by mountain life.
Learning from the Land|Stepping outside the classroom and into the mountains turns the landscape itself into a place of learning.
Stop 3|“A Confession to the Land — Gathering Is Where Creation Begins”
The final stop is the Forestry Story House, presenting creation rooted in the land.
The final stop is the Forestry Story House.
The exhibition “A Confession to the Land — Gathering Is Where Creation Begins” presents gathering as a way of understanding a place.
Children entered forests, bamboo groves, and mountain landscapes to observe plants, experience the environment, listen to local stories, and collect impressions of colors, scents, paths, people, and everyday life.
These experiences were then transformed into creative works.
Here, “gathering” is not simply about picking up a leaf and bringing it home.
It begins with noticing:
Where have I walked?
Who have I met?
What has this land left with me?
Seen this way, the exhibition also offers another way to reflect on the design exhibition and the streets explored earlier in the journey.
Gathering Notes|Gathering is not only about collecting an object, but also about recording observations, memories, and feelings from the journey.
Learning with the Place|Children and local guides enter the mountain landscape together and begin learning through walking and observation.
